Hi, I’m Alisa

Artist. Writer. Yaga’s proud granddaughter 😉

Sometimes I write books and essays on art history. Sometimes I make art, wander dimensions, and explore life in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is my small shrine where all rivers meet

I created a sketch for this mermaid in Budapest just days before the pandemic began, and now I feel there is something of the global crisis in her. Between sea and sky she waits, searching for what endures when the world begins to shift

This simple quilt was the first I ever created. It holds a special place in my heart, as it was my way of embracing life in the US—by learning a historic domestic craft that women here have practiced with pride for generations

Based on the ancient Pearlsong from the Acts of Thomas, this quilt is my object of meditation, an icon—a vision of the soul’s search for its true treasure. In a world of countless pearls, only one shines with the meaning and purpose that is truly yours.

In a faraway forest, there lived an ordinary girl who fell in love with a tree. And that's not even the strangest thing that has happened there. Today, she is the redwood forest's matriarch, protecting all the creatures who dwell in the woods.

The bear slumbers, dreaming of a cowboy who is the guardian of fields and cattle. The young man is so beautiful that even the sun can't help but swoon.

She lived quietly in a cozy swamp until a flood swept her away to a noisy river. It seemed like the end of the world, but she soon discovered that the river was home to many interesting creatures. This was the beginning of a grand adventure.

A girl walks in an Aegean landscape. Is she a goddess, a lost soul, or maybe a woman in love? Sometimes what we can see with our eyes is not enough to find our way

In the spring there are days when the world seems to hold its breath in delight. All living creatures are celebrating the resurrection of Nature and the air is alive with the promise of new life and love

Where does the world begin? “In the beginning was the word,” some say. "In the beginning was the Big Bang," others argue. Perhaps our world exploded into being from the words of love?

The Escape to Egypt. This story is familiar. Escaping from the insane Herod, Joseph takes his young wife and the Holy Child far, far away, wherever his feet will take them. In the midst of a dead and dark night, a small family shines like a handful of diamonds.

She sits against a modern landscape, dressed in Ukrainian rural fashion from the middle of the 20th century. Everything around her breathes disaster, but her real home is eternity, and her child hides a great secret

Uninvited guests often visit us in our dreams. Some bring fear, while others bring joy. We forget most of these encounters as soon as we wake up. But some visitors tend to become family members

Sometimes the beginning of a story is unpleasant. The tale of Ann begins one rainy morning when she opened her mail and found she no longer had a job. Even though Ann hadn’t really liked her job, she had kept up the daily grind to pay rent on her room in a big city and to be closer to its galleries and curators.
One day, a miracle unfolded along the Dnipro River. However, in all honesty, miracles were somewhat common in this region. This particular event was a "trapunok," an unusual occurrence that garnered considerable attention among experts in the area.
Have you ever seen how, at the end of a long summer day, a tired luminary falls into a river as wide as the sea? Before plunging into darkness, the world shimmers with mystery. The distant shore sparkles with gold, and in a moment a pinkish-gray mist spreads over the water.
